Categorizing a free jazz piece as an ear worm may be part of my desperate need to make a unique blog, but I have been returning to this album very frequently since my first listen on April 1st. It’s pretty simple. Four men with a slew of jazz knowledge play whatever they feel is right in the moment for long periods of time. Their ability to create high intensity, explosive moments is contrasted by their long, quite sections that expose a variety of different extended techniques resulting in a perfect 13 minutes of music. Jazz takes patience. It is one of those genres that viciously chases the future of music in a way that frightens some and amazes others.
